Duchek and Quayle Clutch on Senior Night

CINCINNATI - The Xavier volleyball team took its first five-game match of the season and upended visiting Rhode Island, 3-2, on Senior Night at Cintas Center. The Musketeers took the match with scores of 30-19, 28-30, 30-20, 28-30 and 15-7. XU improves to 1-3 on the season when going the distance and is now 16-10 on the year with an 8-3 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams drop to 6-18 overall and are now 1-10 in conference play.
Xavier was led by senior Kate Duchek who posted her fourth match of the season with 20 or more kills and finished with 21 on the evening. She also finished with nine digs to go along with a .296 hitting percentage. Classmate Laci Hasenour set a career-high with five aces on the night as she picked up four in the third game, while serving the first 11 points of the stanza. Sophomore Jill Quayle picked up 17 kills in the victory and had a match-high .351 hitting percentage with five block assists. Senior Jordan Brightwell anchored the backline and tallied a team-high 16 digs, while junior Erica Kaczorowski pitched in 15 on the night. The final senior, Carley Horvath finished with seven kills, 12 digs, six assists and four block assists in her final home match.
The highlight of the night came before the match as four Xavier seniors donned the home jerseys for the last time. Jordan Brightwell, Kate Duchek, Laci Hasenour and Carley Horvath were all honored before the contest for their hard work, commitment and dedication to the Xavier volleyball program.
Xavier will have the next week off before traveling to Duquesne on next Friday for a 7:00 pm match. The Musketeers will then take off to Saint Louis for its final A-10 contest against the Billikens on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
