CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeer women's soccer team ended the regular season with "Senior Day" and a 2-0 win over visiting Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Two seniors led the way to victory as Shawn Reynolds scored the game-winning goal and Angie Scarlato set up both goals and earned a pair of assists.
Reynolds put Xavier up 1-0 just 18:09 into her final home game as she took a pass from Scarlato and drilled it past the Eastern Kentucky goalkeeper.
Freshman Sara Doutt scored an insurance goal for the Musketeers at 29:23 as she beat the keeper after receiving a cross from Scarlato. An EKU player got a piece of the pass but Doutt was able to gather it and finish it. The goal for Doutt gives her a team-high seven goals for the season and raises her point total to 17 points, which ties her for the team lead with junior Amber Silvis, who missed her third straight game due to an injury.
Xavier led 2-0 at halftime and emptied the bench in the second half. In fact, Xavier head coach Alvin Alexander played all 25 available players, including all three goalkeepers. The trio of goalkeepers, freshmen Lindsey Cullins and Ashley Donaldson and sophomore Anne Finnerty, combined for the shutout win. Finnerty recorded all three saves.
The Musketeers dominated the statistics with a 25-5 shot advantage, including a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. All three of the EKU shots on goal came in the final minutes of the match.
Xavier raised its overall record to 9-7-2 with the win, a solid turnaround from last year's 5-12-2 season. In fact, Xavier secured winning records for regular season conference play (4-3-2) and regular season non-conference play (5-4) for only the second time in the last eight years.
Eastern Kentucky is 1-14-1.
The Musketeers, 4-3-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, are in sixth place in the A-10 standings and will secure an A-10 Tournament berth if both Duquesne and Saint Joseph's lose or tie in their matches on Sunday. Duquesne hosts George Washington, while Saint Joseph's is at St. Bonaventure. The top six teams qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship this coming week in Dayton.
