Xavier Volleyball Sweeps Miami

DAYTON, Ohio - In the opening game of the A-10/MAC Challenge hosted by the University of Dayton, Xavier swept Miami (Oh) to claim the victory. The Musketeers downed the RedHawks by scores of 30-23, 20-26 and 30-22 in the three-game match. XU improves to 20-11 on the season, while Miami falls to 17-12 in 2005.
Senior Kate Duchek led the Musketeers with a career-high .700 hitting percentage after recording 14 kills on 20 swings with no hitting errors. Sophomore Jill Quayle was the only other Musketeer to record double-digit kills as she finished with 11 with a .625 hitting percentage and also had five blocks. Junior Astyn Bjorklund had nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage on the evening. Classmate Ashley Norris tied her career-high with 12 digs in the match, while senior Carley Horvath was next in line with eight. Freshman Jenn Welsh dished out 41 assists and added three digs.
The Musketeers as a team recorded only four hitting errors in the match, while recording a season-high .480 hitting percentage.
With the win, Xavier head coach Floyd Deaton has produced ten 20-win seasons in his 16 years with the Musketeers. Including last season, this is the first time since the 2000 and 2001 seasons in which Deaton has led XU to back-to-back 20-win seasons.
