
Xavier Falls to Tough Denison Teams

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Xavier University swim teams could not hold off the powerful Denison teams and fell at the M.O. Gregory Natatorium. The XU men were defeated by a score of 116-88, while the XU women fell 119-80.
Krystel Kooyman led both teams on the afternoon with two first place finishes and helped Xavier's 400 medley relay team to a second place finish. Kooyman won the 100 free and 200 breast events in times of 55.09 and 2:25.70, respectively. Xavier swept the 200 breast event earning the top three honors with Kooyman taking first, followed by freshmen Addie Ellspermann in second (2:35.34) and Alissa Schriner in third (2:39.22). Mary Kuhnen, Kooyman, Sarah Brown and Natalie Lindquist finished the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:07.92 to take second. Junior Jill Cooke garnered two third place finishes in the 1000 free (10:50.26) and the 200 fly (2:12.66). Dana Hunter and Kuhnen rounded out the afternoon as each notched a second place finish. The junior Hunter touched the wall with a time of 5:19.72 in the 500 free, while the sophomore Kuhnen finished in a time of 2:12.60 taking second in the 200 back.
On the men's side, senior Dave Janszen continued to impress with a first place finish in the 200 IM (1:55.59) followed by a second place finish in the 200 back (1:57.26). Jansen also led off the men's 400 medley relay and helped the team of Dan Milheim, Kyle Hawley and Tyler Borg to a second place finish in a time of 3:35.53. Sophomore Nico Lilly was the only other Musketeer to earn a top finish as he posted a time of 1:58.73 to win the 200 fly. Lilly also took second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:53.83, only ten seconds off his school record time. Hawley earned two second place finishes in the meet as the senior swam the 200 free in a time of 1:46.69 and the 200 fly in a time of 1:58.79. Freshman Jake Burke swam a personal best in the 500 free, recording a time of 4:52.98. Sophomores Matt Krouse and Tyler Borg tied for second place in the 50 free as each touched the wall in a time of 22.84, while Milheim earned second in the 100 free as the senior finished with a time of 48.66.
Both 400 free relay teams took first as the women finished with a time of 3:40.44 and the men completed the event in a time of 3:12.66.
Both teams will jump back into action this coming week as the Musketeers play host to Butler University on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm and then return to action again on Saturday at 1:00 pm against Cumberland College. Saturday's festivities will also include Senior Recognition Day so please arrive early and congratulate the seven seniors.
