Kooyman, Schriner Lead Swimming at CSU Quad Meet

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams opened the second half of their seasons in a quad meet between Notre Dame, Duquesne, Cleveland State and XU hosted by the Vikings in Cleveland. Krystel Kooyman and Alissa Schriner each led the way for the Musketeers with three top-three finishes. The women went 1-1, besting the host Vikings, 129.5-70.5, while the men went 0-3.
Kooyman was a part of two relays which won medals and finished second in the 500 free in a time of 5:14.19. Her 200 medley relay, which also included Mary Kuhnen, Jill Winhusen and Lindsay Jackson, took third in a time of 1:52.84. In the 200 free relay, Kooyman joined Schriner, Alison Johnson and Elaina Suba to finish second in 1:40.75.
Schriner took second in the 100 fly in a time of 1:00.12 and finished in a tie for second in the 50 free in 25.44.
Individually, the women swept the top three places in the 400 IM as Bridget Benner (4:43.03) took the gold, Kelsey Burns (4:43.27) the silver and Martha Cutter-Wilson (4:44.46) the bronze.
Nicole Bujold took third in the 1,000 free in a time of 10:59.74 and Mary Kuhnen was third in the 100 back in 1:01.32.
On the men's side, Nico Lilly took fourth in the 1,000 free in a time of 9:59.19. Dave Janszen captured the bronze in the 400 IM in a time of 4:10.18.
The team returns to action next Friday with at dual meet at Ohio University.
