Volleyball Sweeps Duquesne in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Coming off its first Atlantic 10 loss of the season, the Xavier volleyball team downed Duquesne in the A.J. Palumbo Center Sunday afternoon in three straight games to complete the season sweep of the Dukes. The Musketeers, now with double-digit conference wins (10-1), improve to 21-7 on the year. The Dukes fall to 10-15 overall and 2-8 in league play.
For the Musketeers, freshman Claire Paszkiewicz set a career-high 40 assists to go along with 12 digs for her third career double-double. Sophomore Kelly Ruth got under a team-high 19 digs, only one off of her career high, and posted an impressive .545 hitting percentage (7-1-11). Sophomore Hillary Otte tallied a team-high 14 kills in the contest.
Also for Xavier, seniors Jill Quayle and Jenni Horvath both had double-digit kills on the day, smashing 10 apiece. Freshman Chelsea Campbell recorded a career-high six digs in the contest.
As a team XU averaged .336 hitting and had seven total team blocks to go along with 52 kills on the day. The Blue and White hit .409 as a team in its 30-26 game-one win. In the second frame, Xavier dominated the game and took a two-game advantage with a 30-15 victory. A 30-28 win in game three sealed the deal for XU.
For the Dukes, Lindsay Hess got under a match-high 22 digs and Dana McLaughlin posted 12 kills. As a team, Duquesne hit .174 and had 50 kills.
The Musketeers will have an entire week off before returning to action Thursday, November 8, as they travel to Dayton to take on the Flyers in a match that will potentially decide to whom the A-10 regular season title will go. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Fredricks Center.
