CINCINNATI --- The Xavier Musketeer women’s soccer suffered its sixth straight defeat on Friday night, falling 3-1 to Duquesne at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Xavier will try to snap its losing streak on Sunday when it hosts St. Bonaventure at 1:00 p.m. in Atlantic 10 action.
Duquesne jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Annie Reid in the 14th minute.
Xavier answered the Duquesne goal at 37:24 when sophomore Kaitlyn McGoldrick drilled a shot that was knocked away by the DU goalkeeper but recovered by XU sophomore Carlyanne Wenzel, who put it in the back of the net to deadlock the score at 1-1. McGoldrick earned an assist on the play.
The two teams went into halftime tied 1-1 and the score remained that way until the Dukes caught a break in the 77th minute. An inadvertent hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick goal by Shain Geisler that proved to be the game-winner. Mackenzie Kaiser added an insurance goal off a header at 78:19. Xavier outshot Duquesne 8-6 in the second half but it wasn’t enough.
Xavier falls to 0-5-1 in the Atlantic 10 and 1-12-1 overall, while Duquesne raises its records to 4-2-1 in the A-10 and 6-4-3 overall.
