CINCINNATI - The Xavier baseball team fell, 8-2, to the visiting Bowling Green Falcons Wednesday at Hayden Field. With the loss, XU falls to 12-16 for the season while BGSU improves to 13-12 overall for the year.
Junior Adam Pasono went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles while sophomore Zac Richard tallied 11 put outs to go along with an assist, one hit and an RBI.
The Musketeers and the Falcons were tied at one apiece until BGSU used a three-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Bowling Green added another run in the eight and three more in the ninth before Xavier could get a run back in the bottom of the last inning. The Falcons came away with the six-run victory, 8-2.
Freshman Brian Muransky (1-3) took the loss for the Musketeers after striking out two batters and walking one while giving up three runs in 5.1 innings of work. Senior Mike Creevy, freshman Tom Shirley, junior Joe Kohler and senior Kyle Cowden all threw innings of relief for XU.
Nick Cantrell (3-3) got the win for the Falcons after relieving starter Brett Browning in the fifth. Cantrell struck out two batters, walked one and did not give up any runs in 2.2 innings of action.
Xavier will be heading to Charlotte for a three-game Atlantic 10 series April 11-13. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m.
