Baseball Drops Game One at Duquesne, 4-1

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After taking an early one-run lead over Duquesne on a solo home run by junior Sean Farrell in the second inning, the Xavier baseball team dropped its series opener with the Dukes, 4-1. The Musketeers were limited to four hits on the day.
Duquesne (20-22, 13-6 A-10) tied the game at one run apiece in the fifth before a Duke home run in the sixth put them in the lead. Two more insurance runs were knocked in on a single by Bill Torre.
Xavier (19-26, 13-6 A-10) placed a runner in scoring position in the fourth after sophomore Zac Richard was hit by a pitch and then moved over on a sacrifice bunt from junior Jordan Conley but the next two batters were put out to end the scoring threat.
Junior Charlie Leesman (2-4) took the loss for Xavier after striking out four and walking two batters over 5.2 innings of action. Senior Mike Creevy threw 2.1 innings of relief in the contest.
Ryan Juran (5-6) got the win for Duquesne as he struck out four and walked three XU batters in 8.0 innings of work. Danny Brown threw the ninth inning for the Dukes to pick up the save.
Game two of the series between the Musketeers and Dukes is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
