Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Xavier baseball team split its Atlantic 10 conference doubleheader at Duquesne Sunday to avoid the series sweep by the Dukes. After falling 10-1 in the first game, the Musketeers rallied to take the nightcap, 7-1. Xavier is now tied with Charlotte and Duquesne for first place in the A-10.
Junior Steve Brown went 5-for-9 at the plate for the day including two runs scored in the Musketeers' second-game win.
On the mound for Xavier (20-27, 14-7 A-10) in the first game of the day, senior Michael Lucas (4-2) took the loss for XU striking out five batters while walking one in 6.0 innings of action. Brett Greenwell and David Hartman combined for three innings of relief.
Bugajski (4-3) got the win for Duquesne (21-23, 14-7 A-10) after striking out four while walking two in seven innings of action.
Sophomore Danny Rosenbaum (4-3) collected the win for XU in the nightcap as he struck out eight while walking three over 8.2 innings of work. Senior Mike Creevy tossed 0.1 inning of relief.
Pierpont (1-4) took the loss for the Dukes after striking out five and walking none in 5.0 innings of action.
Xavier returns to action Friday, May 9, when it travels to Bronx, N.Y. for a three-game A-10 series at Fordham. First pitch on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
