Swim Teams Wrap Up First Day of Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio - After the first day of competition at the 2009 Akron Zippy Invite, the Xavier men's team is in third place while the women are in seventh. Preliminary events will start up again tomorrow at 9 a.m. Click here to follow live scoring.
XU men's 400-yard medley relay team of junior Terence Mahon, sophomore Michael Zennedjian, freshman Sam Conchuratt and junior Nathan Green touched first, setting a new meet record with a time of 3:22.66. Senior Mickey Hafertepe and freshman Pablo Morejon teamed with Green and Mahon to finish third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In individual events, Green won gold in the 500-yard freestyle with a meet-record time of 4:30.85 while Zennedjian also turned in a meet and new school record time in the 200-yard IM, placing first (1:49.53). In the 50-yard freestyle, Mahon touched third with a time of 21.14.
Junior Kari Peglar, senior Martha Cutter-Wilson, junior Bethanie Griffin and freshman Courtney Shields teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the women's 400-yard medley relay.
Peglar earned bronze in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:00.86. Cutter-Wilson placed 10th in the 200-yard IM (2:10.11) while Griffin also touched 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (24.02).
