CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University women’s soccer team came up short in its bid for a first win of the young season, falling 3-0 to visiting Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. XU, 0-4, travels across town on Thursday to take on Cincinnati in a 7 p.m. match.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime. The score remained that way until the visitors finally found the back of the net at the 50-minute mark of the match. Pitt used a corner kick to set up Ashley Cuba for what proved to be the only scoring the Panthers needed.
Pitt scored an insurance goal at 66:09 when Klarissa Ames was able to beat Xavier goalkeeper Kelly Farrell in the box and punched the ball past her to put Pitt ahead 2-0. Pitt added a third goal three minutes later at 69:25 to solidify the lead.
The Panthers, who remain undefeated at 4-0, got a pair of saves in a shutout effort by goalkeeper Morie Kephart.
