CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's swim team defeated rival Cincinnati 137.5 -127.5 in the annual Crosstown Splashdown at UC's Keating Aquatics Center. The XU women moved to an even 1-1 on the season as the Bearcats edged the Musketeers 182-87.
The XU men got off to a good start as David Maxwell, San Conchuratt, Michael Zennedjian, and Terrence Mahon earned first place in the men's 4x50 relay with a time of 1:35.34.
Jared Ness captured first place in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 53.75. Landon Graham also had a good showing at UC with a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.
Nathan Green was tops in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.41, Chad Thompson took the 200 yard backstroke, and Conchuratt and Zennedjian earned wins in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 individual medley respectively.
Though the women ultimately lost to the Bearcats it wasn't for lack of effort. Senior Kari Peglar continued her streak of success with a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 200 yard backstoke.
Freshman Courtney Cox took top honors in the 500 yard freestyle while Lakenn Reynolds earned first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.6.
The Musketeers look to down the Redhawks of Miami University Saturday at 2 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
