CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's soccer regular season came to an end Friday night as the Musketeers fell to Dayton 2-0 on senior night. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 7-11-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the Atlantic 10 while the Flyers improved to 16-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the A-10.
XU sported special pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer and honored 10 seniors prior to the game. Justine Hartigan, Rian Beckham, Morgan Jones, Jenny Rosen, Aliya Shull, Rachel Mason, Donielle White, Carly Wenzel, Anne Higgins, and Kaitlyn McGoldrick all played in their final match at XU.
The Flyers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Colleen Williams posted her first goal of the night on an 18-yard strike that bounced off the post and past Rosen for the score. Williams added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when she got a breakaway at midfield and drove the ball home for the goal.
Rosen went a complete 90 minutes in her final match at XU and earned five saves in process. Lisa Rodgers earned the win in 90 minutes in the goal for the Flyers.
Despite the loss the Musketeers, under first-year head coach Woody Sherwood, posted their best record since 2006 when the team went 7-10-2 overall.
