CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point and defeated Atlantic 10 Conference foe Saint Louis 4-3 Friday night. XU rolled off four singles victories, including three straight in the fourth, fifth, and sixth matches to seal the win.
"I am really proud of our guys coming back after losing tonight's doubles point to earn another important conference win," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "Winning the doubles is always crucial, sometimes necessary to beat good teams. We may have to win a match like this in about a month at the conference championships in terms of coming back after losing the doubles point. I'd rather not have it that way, but competing and coming back as we did tonight will give us the belief that we can certainly do it again given the same situation."
Chris Herrlinger earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles but the Billikens rallied to win the next two singles matches.
Bobby Deye notched a win at No. 4 when he defeated Chris Eriksson 6-4, 6-2, JT Torbeck earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5, and freshman Brandon MacDonald posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Bryan Beasley at No. 6 that sealed the match for the Musketeers.
With the win, Xavier improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10. The Musketeers will travel to face Western Michigan Sunday at noon.
