Xavier Splits Double-Header With Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS -- The Xavier baseball team split Saturday's double header at Saint Louis with the Musketeers taking game one 4-3, and the Billikens earning an 8-0 victory in the second game.
In the first contest of the day the Musketeers battled back from a three run deficit for the win. XU trailed 3-0 after the first inning but Zac Richard's solo homer in the top of the fourth got the Musketeers on the board.
Zac Richard struck again with a single that plated Drew Schmidt in the top of the fifth inning. Neil Lindgren scored on a Patrick Paligraf double in the top of the eighth to tie the score at 3-3.
XU took the lead for good on a fielding error by the SLU first baseman and held on in the ninth for the 4-3 win.
Josh Deeg earned the win for the Musketeers in the first game.
In the second game of the day the Musketeers fell 8-0.
The Billikens jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth and scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to take the 8-0 lead.
Alex Alemann earned the win for SLU, while Zac Richard was pegged with the loss in game two.
With the split, the Musketeers record stands at 5-18 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10. Xavier returns to action Wednesday, March 31, as they travel up I-75 for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Wright State.
