
Musketeers Fall In Overtime To College Of Charleston 2-1

CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's soccer team was looking for its third straight victory but an overtime goal by College of Charleston forward Kelly Gautreaux gave the Cougars a 2-1 win over the Musketeers Sunday afternoon at the XU Soccer Complex.
The Musketeers (2-3-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when freshman Lauren Heap drilled a 30 yard free kick that deflected off a Cougar defender an into the back of the net.
The Musketeer defense held firm through most of the second half until Morgan Benz took advantage of a penalty kick to tie the game a 1-1 in the 86th minute.
In overtime, Gautreaux headed in a Maryam Buazza corner kick in the 96th minute to seal the Cougar victory.
The Cougars out-shot the Musketeers 13-8 with Sarah Schaidle leading the way with four. XU saw three players with a pair of shots.
CofC goalkeeper Katie Tate was credited with the win after taking over in the second period. She finished with one save. XU goalkeeper Jennifer Perri earned two saves in over 95 minutes of work.
Xavier continues to 2010 campaign on the road as the Musketeers face Mercer in the opening round of the Western Carolina Tournament Friday, September 10 at 5 p.m.
