CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Xavier swim team posted strong individual performances at Cleveland State Saturday afternoon. The XU men competed against the host Vikings, and Oakland University. The XU women faced off against CSU, Oakland, and Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne.
"Our teams performed the best they have all year, which is a great sign considering how tired they should be in this phase of our training," said XU head coach Brent MacDonald. "They raced well after the long layoff and fought some tough competition from two teams at the top of their respective conferences. It was great for our girls to beat A-10 rival Duquesne for the first time in several years. This should give us a lot of confidence going into our final month of dual meets and the Atlantic 10 conference at the end of February."
Senior Kari Peglar had a strong performance with a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle competition with a time of 1:56.16. She placed fifth in the 100 yard freestyle, and she teamed with Bethanie Griffin, Mary Podlaski, and Anne Frigo for a fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.
Frigo placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.94. She was trailed by freshman Lakenn Reynolds with a time of 25.11, which was good enough for fourth place.
On the men's side senior Nathan Green earned yet another first place finish. The Woodbine, Ga. native took the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.03. He also earned fourth place in the 200 freestyle relay with fellow senior Andrew Viglione, sophomore Pablo Morejon, and freshman John Kinney.
The Xavier swimmers will return to action Monday as they travel to Indianapolis for the IUPUI relay.
