RICHMOND, Va. -- The Xavier defense held off a determined attack from Richmond in Atlantic 10 action Friday night but in the end, neither team could find the back of the net as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
"Tonight was an exciting game to watch," said Xavier head coach Woody Sherwood. "There were plenty of chances from both teams. Richmond plays very good soccer and has one of the most dangerous goal scorers in the league. Lauren Heap and the rest of the backs did a great job limiting her chances"
Xavier (5-6-2, 0-3-1 A-10) posted 17 shots with junior Leslie Twehues leading the way with eight shots. Fellow junior Leslie Boersma posted four shots on the evening.
On the defensive side, freshman goalkeeper Katie Markesbery pulled down 15 saves.
Richmond (9-4-3, 3-1-1 A-10) was led in shooting by Becca Wann with 11 strikes. Melissa Pacheco posted six saves in goal for the Spiders.
The Musketeers return to Atlantic 10 play Sunday as they travel to face George Washington. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with links to live stats and live video available on GoXavier.com.
