Volleyball Drops Match to Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. - Despite having two Musketeers post 14 kills each, XU fell to the Rhode Island Rams Saturday afternoon (25-14, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16). Red-shirt sophomore Alex Smith and sophomore Sarah Brown led XU offensively, while sophomore Kelsey Dunaway led the Musketeers on the service line.
With the setback the Musketeers drop to 14-8 on the season and 6-3 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams improve to 12-11 on the season and 4-5 in the conference.
Smith tallied a season-best 14 kills to go with a .357 hitting percentage (14-4-28) while also notching four assisted blocks. Brown equaled Smtih's efforts with 14 kills but managed a stellar .550 attack average (14-3-20). Brown also added seven digs.
Dunaway had a monster night from the service line, talling a career-high four service aces. She also added five kills. Freshman Aubree Smith notched 36 assists, two kills and two digs.
Kayla Wilson led Rhode Island with a match-high 20 kills off a .378 hitting percentage (20-6-37). Candice Kolkka tallied a match-high 52 assists.
The Musketeers bounce back quickly as they head a couple of miles away from campus to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats at UC at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
