NASVILLE,Tenn. -- The Xavier men's tennis team earned its second straight victory with a 6-1 win over Belmont Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. With the win, XU improved to an even 6-6 on the season.
"Given the fact that we had not even hit a ball outdoors since October, to defeat a team that is built for outdoor play is very impressive," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "Belmont's guys make you play long, grinding points and to not drop a set today is something our squad can be very happy about. As we continue the season, we're going to have to sharpen our outdoor play. The competition that we'll face in Dallas next will certainly prepare us well for our last month of the season."
XU did not drop a set in singles play after falling behind 1-0 after doubles competition. Seniors Bobby Deye and Brian Starr set the pace with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 respectively. Sophomore Brandon MacDonald earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3. Freshmen Jimmy Roebker and Mesa Mei earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 each and junior Patrick Bandy earned a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 5.
The Musketeers return to action March 8 as they travel to Texas to take on UT-Arlington in the first of three matches in the Lone Star State.
