XU Pounds YSU 14-5 Wednesday At Prasco Park

MASON, Ohio -- The Xavier baseball team earned its eighth straight win with a 14-5 drubbing of Youngstown State Wednesday at Prasco Park. With the win, the Musketeers improved to 11-6 while the Penguins fell to 1-12.
Jake Clear earned the win for the Musketeers in 3.1 innings of relief work. The sophomore gave up two earned runs and struck out two YSU batters in the win.
Right fielder Daniel Rod went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Three of the sophomore's runs came with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth that gave XU a 10-4 lead.
The Musketeers posted one run in the bottom of the first but the Penguins managed to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. XU rebounded with two runs to tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.
XU blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth with six runs, three of which came off of Rod's double.
The Musketeers return to action Friday as they travel down I-71 for a three-game stand at No. 19 Louisville. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
