COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Xavier baseball team came up just a little short at Ohio State Tuesday evening as the Buckeyes beat the Musketeers 4-1 in non-conference action. With the loss, XU fell to 16-10 while the Buckeyes improved to 8-10 on the season.
Senior starting pitcher Brian Muransky was pegged with the loss and fell to 2-1 on the season. The Musketeer righty pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs in the loss.
Freshman Brian Bruening had a strong offensive outing as he went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored Xavier's lone run of the game.
The freshman right fielder crossed the plate in the top of the fifth when redshirt-sophomore Mark Elwell knocked a full-count single by the OSU shortstop and cut the Buckeye lead to 3-1. The OSU pitching staff held its own through the rest of the game and didn't allow a single XU run.
The Musketeers return to action tomorrow as they travel to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami (Ohio). First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
