ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Xavier men's tennis team fell to 6-7 on the season after dropping a 5-2 decision at UT-Arlington Tuesday afternoon. The Musketeers took the doubles point but couldn't overcome the home team in singles play.
"I really feel like we let a good opportunity to get a quality win slip away," said head coach Eric Toth. "We had a great effort in doubles to gain the lead but were not nearly as competitive as we needed to be as a whole. We need a better effort Thursday against two very solid teams."
Senior Bobby Deye earned the Musketeers' lone singles win with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Mindaugas Celedinas in the top match.
Deye teamed with freshman Jimmy Roebker for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles and junior Patrick Bandy and senior Brian Starr took the No. 1 match 8-5.
The Musketeers return to action against Abilene Christian and Southern Methodist, Thursday in Dallas.
