
Musketeers Suffer Setback At Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Xavier baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision at Kentucky Wednesday night at UK's Cliff Hagan Stadium. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 1-6 while the Wildcats improved to 8-0.
Alex Westrick suffered a loss in his first collegiate start. He pitched three innings and gave up three hits and two earned runs. UK starter Chandler Shepherd earned the win in five innings of shutout action.
Joey Noble led the Musketeers offensively as went 2-for-3 with a run.
UK got on the board first when Thomas Bernal drove in Luke Maile to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead after two innings. Kentucky added one more in the bottom the third and two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 4-0 ballgame in favor of the Wildcats.
Maile led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to left and UK added two more runs to extend their lead to 7-0. Kentucky struck again in the bottom of the sixth adding two runs.
Michael Moore drove in the first run of the game for XU in the top of the seventh when he hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and no out to score Vinny Nittoli. Noble scored the second XU run of the inning on a balk by UK reliever Chris Garrison to cut the UK lead to 9-2.
Xavier will be back in action Saturday, March 3 as they face Northwestern in the first game of an eight-game swing in Port Charlotte, Fla. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
