Xavier Women's Basketball Falls to Rival Dayton 74-65

CINCINNATI- The Xavier women's basketball team suffered a 74-65 loss to rival Dayton on Sunday at Cintas Center. Junior Jessica Pachko led the way for the Musketeers posting a game-high 19 points and a game-high tying eight rebounds.
Xavier fell to 5-16 on the season and 2-6 in Atlantic 10 action. The loss snapped a two game win streak by the Musketeers. Dayton improved to 15-5 and 7-1 in the A-10.
Pachko notched her eighth consecutive double-figure scoring performance. Sophomore Shatyra Hawkes scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Tyeasha Moss contributed 13 points and six rebounds. Junior Amber Gray had 11 points and six rebounds.
Xavier mounted a comeback in the second half pulling within seven with 1:06 left to play on the strength of rebounding and defending the three. After being red-hot in the first half from behind the arc, Dayton was held without a trey in the second half.
Xavier shot 44.0 percent (22-of-50) while Dayton shot 40.3 (27-of-67). The Musketeers won the battle of the boards 41-38.
The Musketeers were down 43-26 going into the break as turnovers were a factor in the halftime deficit. Pachko led the way for Xavier scorers with eight points, grabbing five rebounds.
The Flyers converted on six treys in the first half to help extend their lead. UD opened the game with a 9-0 run while Xavier did not score a field goal until Gray had a driving layup at the 12:13 mark. This basket cut the lead down to 13, 18-5.
The Musketeers continued to struggle throughout the half, finding more success at the charity stripe than the field and turned the ball over 11 times. Dayton shot 47.1 percent (16-of-34) in the first half while Xavier shot 28.0 percent (7-of-25). Xavier and Dayton each snatched 20 boards in the first 20 minutes.
Cassie Sant led Dayton scorers with 16 points off the bench. Justine Raterman and Andrea Hoover each grabbed a game-high tying eight rebounds.
Xavier will travel to George Washington on Wednesday, February 8. Tip-off is set for noon.
