Musketeers Place Sixth at Cowgirl Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz.- The Xavier women’s golf team rounded out the 2012 Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, finishing in sixth place with a score of 909 (+45). Only four strokes separated the Musketeers from a top-five finish. Sophomore Christine Cash lead the way with a team-low 7-over-par 223 (70-77-76) and finished tied for 12th place.
This marked Cash’s fourth top-20 finish of the season. Cash tallied 38 pars for the tournament which ranked tied for fourth best in the field. She also had an even scoring average for the course’s par-3. Senior Michelle Winkler finished tied for 16th after she fired a 225 (73-75-77). Winkler was tied for the third lowest scoring average on the course’s par-5 with an average score of 4.92.
Junior Breanna Patz ended the tournament with a 227 (+11) and was tied for 28th place. Sophomore Kristin Tan shot a 234 (+18) for the three-day tournament. Tan had her lowest score on the final day as she shot a 75. Junior Alexandra Lake shot a 256 (84-83-89) at the par 72, Ocotillo Golf Resort.
Ariel McNair and Abby Smith each competed as individuals for the Cowgirl Classic. Abby Smith shot a career-low 1-under-par 71 on the final day, giving her a tournament total of 228 (+12). Smith was tied for 32nd place on the leaderboard. McNair ended the tournament with a 240 (77-80-83) and was tied for 87th.
University of Iowa took the 2012 Wyoming Cowgirl Classics title with a score of 884 (+20). Brianna Espinoza of Colorado State was the medalist with a tournament record score of 8-under-par 208.
