Musketeers Fall In Extra Innings At Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. -- Xavier dropped to an even 2-2 in the Atlantic 10 and 11-18 overall as the Musketeers fell victim to a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning that handed Richmond a 2-1 win Friday afternoon.
Junior Seth Willoughby was tagged with his first loss of the season in three innings of relief action. Starting pitcher, redshirt-sophomore Vinny Nittoli, pitched five innings and gave up just one run while freshman Alex Westrick posted three shutout innings.
Richmond starter pitched all 10 innings for the Spiders and gave up just one run in the win. The Spider right hander fanned 11 Musketeer batters and gave up just two walks in the outing.
Jacob Bodner led off the top of the third by reaching first base on a fielding error by the Spiders' shortstop. The freshman second baseman scored Xavier's lone run on an RBI single by Daniel Rod.
Rod and sophomore Brian Bruening hit each of Xavier's two hits in the loss.
Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded RBI single by left fielder Eric Flanagan. The Spiders took the lead and the win in the bottom of the 10th inning when Adam Forrer knocked a two-out RBI single to right field that brought home right fielder Phil Ruzbarsky.
