Men's Soccer Falls at No. 21 Wisconsin
08.31.14 | Men's Soccer
Aug. 31, 2014
Redshirt freshman Walker Andriot led the Musketeers with two shots, while Will Walker and Ian Vicars each were credited with one as XU dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Neither team could get much going offensively in the first half, as shots were even (2-2) at the break. Xavier held a decisive advantage (4-1) in corners, but was unable to get a shot on frame. Both of Wisconsin's opening half opportunities came in the first six minutes, as XU goalie Eric Osswald made a pair of big saves early.
Coming out of the break, senior forward Jacob Brindle was the first to tally for Wisconsin connecting on a header in the 54th minute. Just under seven minutes later, the Badgers got another score from Mark Segbers to move ahead 2-0.
A tally in the 73rd minute by Mike Catalano and Segbers' second score in the 81st would provide the final outcome. It was the first shutout suffered by Xavier this season, as the team dropped to 1-2-1 all-time against Wisconsin.
Wisconsin's keeper, Adrian Remeniuk, was credited with the shutout as the Badgers recovered from a season-opening loss to move to 1-1. It was the 15th win in the Badgers' last 16 home matches.
The Musketeers return to the pitch on Thursday, travelling to Peoria, Ill. for a 6:00 p.m. ET matchup against Bradley.
