Musketeers Upend IUPUI Jaguars

CINCINNATI – Men's tennis dominated the Eastern Hills Tennis Club courts, February 20th, putting forth a 6-1 score to defeat neighboring rival, IUPUI.
From the get-go, Xavier earned the doubles point, sweeping each of its three opponents in quick fashion. At the no. 3 spot, Gabriel Chaves Araujo and Arthur Stefani combined forces to defeat Matt Moe and Patrick McAuley, 6-0, while at the no. 2 spot, Jeremey Schneider and Jack Dykema improved their record to 3-4, edging off David Beasley and Akshy Verma, 6-3. Zach Mueck and Matt Bishop also tacked on a win to improve to 2-3 in doubles competition. Overall, Xavier now holds a 10-10 record in doubles competition this spring season.
The Musketeers didn't stop there, however, carrying the momentum into singles competition and dominating in all but one set. With wins at the no. 1,2,3,4 and 6 spots, Xavier improves to 24-16 in competition and 5-2 overall this season.
"We had a great bounce back win," assistant coach John Allare noted. "The guys took care of business quickly and efficiently and our energy was a real difference maker. I'm happy Trent was able to get his first win as a Musketeer and I'm proud our guys did exactly what was expected of them."
Men's tennis will be back in action, February 29th, to face off against Northern Kentucky. The Muskeeters will look to keep their home record perfect as they take on the Norse. Dual match play will begin at 6 PM.
