Strength and Conditioning Center Construction Underway

New facility made possible by the McCaw Family Charitable Fund
CINCINNATI — Xavier University Athletics announced today that building construction is underway for the new strength and conditioning area as part of the Cintas Center renovation.
Construction of this space was made possible by the generosity of the McCaw Family Charitable Fund.
One of the core pillars of the Cintas Center renovation project is enhancing the student-athlete experience. The Xavier Strength and Conditioning Center provides Xavier student-athletes the opportunity to elevate their training and develop a competitive edge over their opponents.
"Our family is excited to support the Cintas Center renovations through this gift to the Xavier Strength and Conditioning Center," said Amanda McCaw Steele. "We are proud to support the future success of Xavier Athletics and are eager to contribute to an area that will widely impact the Musketeer family. Xavier student-athletes are leaders in the classroom and competitively. We hope this new space will help all 18 teams take on the challenge of being the best."
The new Xavier Strength and Conditioning Center will increase Xavier's space by nearly 50-percent over the existing weight room and will better accommodate all of Xavier's nearly 300 student-athletes. The new strength and conditioning area will boast technological upgrades, including heart-rate monitoring systems, additional office space for strength and conditioning staff, a dedicated short sprint area, and new weight training and cardio equipment.
"Our student-athletes push themselves each and every day. We expect our teams to perform at a high level and to compete for championships," said Xavier Athletics Director Greg Christopher. "We appreciate the support of the McCaw Family Charitable Fund. Their gift has a transformational impact on all Xavier student-athletes and creates a space for them to train together and push each other to continuously improve and grow stronger."
Work on the Xavier Strength and Conditioning Center will continue through the spring and is expected to be finished in September, 2016. The new weight and training facility is part of the first phase of the Cintas Center renovation, a $25 million project that will enhance every aspect of the 15 year-old multipurpose arena. The first phase of work is focused on improving the arena for Xavier's student-athletes. Last fall, Xavier opened the Kevin And Georgette Crawford Student-Athlete Academic Center in Cintas Center. Once the Xavier Strength and Conditioning Center is complete, the department will renovate and expand its Sports Medicine area, more than doubling the square footage dedicated to Sports Medicine.
Xavier University, a Jesuit Catholic University located in Cincinnati, Ohio, was founded in 1831. Xavier, an NCAA Division I member for intercollegiate athletics, sponsors 18 athletic programs, including nine men's sports and nine women's sports. All 18 sports compete in the BIG EAST Conference. Xavier Athletics empowers student-athletes to excel academically, athletically and spiritually. Athletics serves as a platform for national exposure and a vehicle for student, faculty, staff, alumni and community pride and engagement. For more information on Xavier Athletics visit GoXavier.com.
