BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament Field Announced

No. 8 seed Xavier takes on No. 9 seed Butler in the opening round
NEW YORK - Xavier women's basketball will be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming 2016 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament, Presented by the Jeep Brand, as the bracket was announced on Sunday night. The Musketeers face No. 9 seed Butler on Saturday, March 5 at 5:30 EST in the opening round.
The full set of seeds are as follows: No. 1 DePaul, No. 2 Villanova, No. 3 Seton Hall, No. 4 St. John's, No. 5 Georgetown, No. 6 Marquette, No. 7 Creighton, No. 8 Xavier, No. 9 Butler and No. 10 Providence. The top six seeds earn BIG EAST Tournament first round byes, going directly to the quarterfinals.
All nine games of the BIG EAST Tournament will be played at DePaul's McGrath-Phillips Arena. The opening round games will be aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network with the remaining rounds being aired nationally on FS2 or FS1.
Xavier finished the regular season with a 17-12 (8-10 BIG EAST) record. The Musketeers look to snap a six-game losing streak - their longest of the season - on Saturday against a Butler squad they defeated twice during the regular season. Butler is 9-20 (4-14 BIG EAST) and ended the season on a two-game losing streak.
Xavier is 1-2 in BIG EAST Tournament action since joining the conference in 2013-14. The No. 7 seed Musketeers defeated No. 10 seed Georgetown in the opening round last season before being defeated by No. 2 seed and eventual tournament champion, DePaul, in the quarterfinals.
