Sophomore Jose Montaño Finishes Runner Up in South Carolina

BLUFFTON, S.C. - The Xavier men's golf team concluded the second tournament of the spring this afternoon at the Colleton River Collegiate in South Carolina. Sophomore Jose Montaño finished solely in second place after firing a final round 73 (+1). The Bolivia native played the par 5's under par this week, averaging 4.75 strokes a hole. This marks the third time Montaño has finished runner up in his career.
Xavier, as a team, finished in eight after shooting a final round score of 312 (+24), putting them at a total combined score of 917 (+53) for the tournament.
Freshman Daniel Wetterich finished tied for 34th after shooting a final round 80 (+8). The Cincinnati native was second on the team with 33 pars, and finished with a combined score of 231 (+15) for the tournament.
Graduate student John Burger finished tied for 47th after a final round 81 (+9). The Cincinnati native had one of two eagles for Musketeers, and finished with a combined score of 234 (+18).
Junior Fox Morrissey finished tied for 57th after a final round 79 (+7). The Nashville native led the team with 42 pars for the week, and finished with a combined score of 237 (+21).
A duo of Musketeers finished tied for 59th. Senior Matt Gerard, who competed as an individual, and junior Matt Wetterich each finished with a combined score of 238 (+22).
The Musketeers return to the course this Friday, March 11th for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
