Xavier Posts Eight Top-Five Finishes at Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invite
04.24.16 | Track and Field
Xavier returns to action at the Penn Relays on April 27-29
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Xavier track and field competed at the Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday. The Musketeers combined for 16 top-10 finishes.
"The goal of the meet at Louisville was to keep the momentum going from last weekend and start to get into a post-season mentality," said head coach Ryan Orner. "I thought the team did well overall, but the group that went to California showed a little fatigue from the extra travel. Once we give their bodies a chance to recover this coming week, they'll be ready to go. For the most part, everyone is fit, we just need to be able to take advantage of that fitness."

"Tori Chiller had a 22 second PR in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:46. Tori has come a long way since her days as a sprinter. In back-to-back weekends she's run lifetime best marks and shown her depth as a racer."
"Sarah Clark had a great day. She's also coming off a PR at Ball State last week in the 1,500-meter run, but Saturday was about crushing her high school PR in the 800. She executed the race plan that I gave her perfectly, ran with confidence and improved her best mark in the 800 by three seconds. I even think she was a little shocked by how fast she ran. Previous PR was a 2:19.98, new PR 2:16.94 for 6th place."
"Kristine Johnson made finals in the javelin with a two-meter personal best. She just took up this event a few weeks ago, but I think she'll be able to help the team at the conference meet." Â
Â
"Zach Polk made the 100-meter dash finals with a 9.92 and then came back in the finals and ran 10.83. The best part about his 100 final was that he had just taken his final attempt in the long jump final, ran out of the pit, over to the start of the 100 final and had literally no time in between to prepare. Â The 10.83 is a PR for him. In the long jump, his mark of 7.24 is a season best."
"The 800-meter run was a great race for our guys today. We placed 2-3-5 and all three guys looked really strong."
