Track standout places 43rd in the 10,000-meter run
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore track standout Madeline Britton wrapped up her successful track season at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday night at Hodges Stadium.
Britton, who was running in the 10,000-meter run for only the third time during her Xavier career, placed 43rd (out of 48 runners) in the event with a time of 37:05.99. The Bay Village, Ohio, native's season comes to an end at the NCAA East Regional despite battling illness in recent weeks, forcing her to miss the BIG EAST Championships.
"Although her head was into tonight's race, her body was not. Getting sick and missing seven days of training over the past two weeks really took its toll. I knew she had lost a little of her sharpness, but her legs just weren't there at all."
"Overall, Maddie had a great year and has come a long way. I know she'll be back at the NCAA Regional next year and will have much better race. This one race won't define her year."
• All-BIG EAST Performer in cross country
• Placed 18th at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships
• Posted the 3rd fastest 6K time in XU cross country history (20:29.1)
• Set the indoor XU track record in the 5,000-meter run (16:57.23) at the BIG EAST Championships
• Set a PR in the outdoor 10K with a time of 34:48.93 at the Penn Relays
