Jose Montaño Finishes Tied for Third, Team Second at BIG EAST Championship

Jose Montaño Named to All-BIG EAST Team
CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. - The Xavier men's golf team concluded the final round of the BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP this afternoon. The ALL-BIG-EAST first team duo of Jose Montaño and Daniel Wetterich led the Musketeers to a second place finish in the conference.
Montaño finished tied for third individually after a final round 75 (+3), which earned him a spot on the all-tournament team. The sophomore led the team in birdies with 14. This marks the sixth time in the last six tournaments Montaño has finished inside the top three.
Wetterich finished tied for 14th. The freshman was third on the team with nine birdies and played the par 5's under par, averaging 4.83 strokes a hole.
Xavier, as a team, trailed by just eight strokes entering the resumption of second-round action this morning, but was not able to keep pace with the hot-scoring Georgetown Hoyas. The Musketeers finished runner up with a total combined score of 897 (+21).
John Burger finished tied for 19th after a final round 75 (+3). The graduate student, playing in his final collegiate tournament as a Musketeer, led the team in pars with 33.
Juniors David Long and Fox Morrissey finished tied for 24th and tied for 38th respectively. Long was second on the team with 11 birdies.
