BASEBALL UPDATE: Musketeers Faring Well in Summer Leagues

CINCINNATI – Garrett Schilling leads the Northwoods League in saves with 14 and Zac Lowther paces the prestigious Cape Cod League with 37 strikeouts – just two of many Xavier baseball players having standout summers across the country.
22 Musketeers are currently playing on summer teams and seven have been named to all-star teams in their respective leagues.
A few updates:
· Chris Givin was named an all-star and is currently hitting .412 through 26 games for the Amsterdam Mohawks (NY) as a part of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. A number of future pros have played for the seven-time league champion Mohawks, including current San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence.
· Rylan Bannon is hitting .329 with two homers and 20 RBI in 23 games for the Savannah Bananas as part of the Coastal Plain League. He has also walked 16 times and sports a .455 on-base percentage.
· Roger Danison was named an all-star in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and is batting .330 with a pair of homers through 28 games for the Cincinnati Steam.
· Stephen Haring is hitting .250 with two homers and 11 RBI for the Riverhead Tomcats, earning all-star honors in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.
· Matt Fallon is hitting .273 in 20 games for the Champion City Kings in Springfield, Ohio.
· Sam Flamini has 17 RBI and a .287 batting average through 26 games for the Allentown Railers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.
· Joe Gellenbeck is hitting .266 with 17 RBI in 29 games for the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the Northwoods League.
· Brad Kirschner has posted a 2.84 ERA in 25.1 innings for the Cincinnati Steam, earning all-star honors in the GLSCL as well.
· Garrett Schilling has been lights out as a closer for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the Northwoods League, earning all-star honors after racking up 14 saves in 17 appearances. The XU sophomore has 28 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched. An 18-team organization, the Northwoods League has produced more than 140 future MLB players. That list includes names like Max Scherzer, Chris Sale, Jordan Zimmerman, Curtis Granderson and Ben Zobrist.
· Damien Richard was also named an all-star for the Rafters in the Northwoods League, posting a 2.38 ERA in 22.2 innings to go with 25 strikeouts.
· Trent Astle has turned in a 1.60 ERA in five starts for the Valley Blue Sox, striking out 18 in 28 innings of work.
· Zac Lowther leads the prestigious Cape Cod League with 37 strikeouts in just 20 innings for the Brewster Whitecaps. The lefty has a 3.15 ERA in eight appearances, including one start. As of 2015, 292 former Cape Cod League players are active on MLB rosters.
· Jason Hall has yet to allow an earned run in 12.2 innings for the Licking County Settlers, striking out 24 and allowing just eight hits in seven appearances.
· Taylor Williams has pitched 12 innings over six appearances for the Worcester Bravehearts, recording a 3.00 ERA and striking out eight.
