Meredith Klare Named Holiday Inn West Invitational MVP

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Redshirt-sophomore Meredith Klare was named the Holiday Inn West Invitational Most Valuable Player after helping the Musketeers post a 2-1 record over the weekend. The two-day tournament was hosted by Western Michigan at University Arena.

Xavier volleyball won the weekend tournament by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker over Tennessee. The Musketeers picked up wins over Milwaukee and Tennessee in tournament action.

Klare totaled 44 digs over three matches, averaging 3.67 d/s. The Union, Ky., native has averaged 4.05 d/s this year to rank sixth in the BIG EAST.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

• Alexis Newsome and Kristen Massa also joined Meredith Klare on the all-tournament team.

• Kristen Massa led Xavier with 45 total kills, averaging 3.75 k/s over the weekend. The outside hitter also added a .376 hitting percentage and six blocks.

• Xavier had 14 more blocks (32-18) than its opponents this weekend. Alexis Newsome had 10, while adding 19 kills a .298 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT

• Xavier returns to action at the Stacey Clark Classic hosted by No. 20 Purdue on Sept. 16-17. The Musketeers open tournament play on Friday against No. 4 Kansas, a 2015 NCAA Final Four participant.
