Xavier returns to action at the All-Ohio Invitational on Sept. 30
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Xavier cross country wrapped up action at the National Catholic Invitational on Friday night with the women's team placing six and the men's squad taking eighth, respectively.
The meet was held at the Notre Dame Golf Course. The women's 5K race had 83 individual participants, while the men's 8K race had 86.
Gina Genco - 11th place, 18:11.60
Allison Sinning - 25th, 18:40.40
Meghan Vogel - 34th, 18:55.80
Alondra Hoyos - 35th, 18:56.00
Rachael Sollman - 50th, 19:16.60
Women's Open Race
"I was pleased with the way our women's team went out through the mile in the open race. Although her finish time was a little off her goal, Devi Jagadesan ran one of her better race today."
Women Varsity Race
"The women's team had a rough week and it carried over into their race today. We're a lot better team then what we showed, but I'm confident they'll be ready to go at the end of the season when it matters most."
"The one person who I thought really stood out was Alondra Hoyos. She's a transfer student who didn't race a lot last year at her other school and ran way above her fitness level today. She showed a lot of heart in her first race as a Musketeer and I'm excited about her future."
1. Notre Dame - 31 pts.
2. Marquette - 73 pts.
3. Dayton - 96 pts.
4. Saint Louis - 125 pts.
5. Loyola - 144 pts.
6. Xavier - 155 pts.
7. Canisius - 163 pts.
8. Holy Cross - 166 pts.
9. Detroit - 233 pts.
10. DePaul - 241 pts.
11. Niagara - 343 pts.
Charles Korodi - 27th, 26:23.00
Grayson Jenkins - 31st, 26:26.80
Aaron Peterson - 38th, 26:47.50
Grant Parrelli - 44th, 26:59.50
Matt Mekaelian - 59th, 27:33.40
Men's Open Race
"Jack Hautz ran a great race. This was our highest finish in the open race that I can remember. He ran most of the second half of the race by himself and was still able to maintain focus and finish with a solid time for his first 8K."
Men Varsity's Race
"Our men's team had four keys to success that I wanted them to focus on today. They nailed two of the four by getting out hard through the first 300 meters, hitting their first mile pace range but fell a little short with the final to keys to success."
"Our number three runner had a medical incident with about two miles to go, which certainly set us back in the team scoring. Charlie Korodi had a much better race this week to lead the way for the guys. Although it wasn't the time he was shooting for, he competed much better then at Queen City."
1. Saint Louis - 52 pts.
2. Notre Dame - 70 pts.
3. Dayton - 76 pts.
4. Marquette - 100 pts.
