Women's Soccer Takes on IUPUI to Close Out Non-Conference Schedule

Musketeers face Jags at 1 PM on Sunday in Indianapolis
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer (6-2-1) looks to close out its non-conference schedule on a three-game win streak as the Musketeers travel to Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 18 to face IUPUI at 1:00 p.m.
• IUPUI (5-3-1) took the 1-0 double-overtime win over Evansville on Friday evening, getting the golden goal in the second minute of the second overtime on Samantha Bathurst's first tally of her career.
• The Jaguars have also collected wins against Valparaiso (2-0), Marian (8-0), Indiana State (2-1) and Eastern Illinois (2-1) this season. IUPUI also picked up a result in a 2-2 double overtime draw at Marshall.
• The Musketeers and Jags have one common opponent at this point in the season in Ball State. Xavier played BSU to a 1-1 draw through two over times while IUPUI fell, 4-1, at BSU. IUPUI's other two losses came against VMI (1-0) and Butler (3-0).
• Tori Minnich leads the Jags with 11 points through nine games, coming off five goals and an assist. Catherine Raster sits just behind her at 10 points off four goals and a pair of assists.
• IUPUI is averaging 2.0 goals per game, sitting at 18 total goals through nine games. Eight different Jags have tallies this season.
• Catherine Schmidt has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Jags, totaling over 633 minutes in eight appearances. Schmidt has collected 33 saves for a 73.3 save percentage, while allowing 12 goals for 1.70 GAA to earn a 3-3-1 record. Sophia Lipka has played over 200 minutes in four appearances in goal, earning a 1.000 save percentage with 10 saves collected and zero goals allowed. Lipka's record stands at 2-0-0.
• Xavier leads the all time series with IUPUI 3-0, dating back to 2012. Xavier won the first match-up 2-0 in Indianapolis
• The Musketeers won the last two match-ups, 2-0. Last season, after the teams played to a 0-0 draw for the first 50 minutes, Kenadie Carlson scored the eventual game-winner to put the Musketeers up 1-0. Samantha Dewey scored the insurance goal in the 57th minute to set the final margin.
• Xavier picked up its sixth win of the season on Friday when the Musketeers topped Ohio, 2-1, in Athens.
• The Musketeers took the early lead, scoring midway through the first half for the first tally of the day. Samantha Dewey scored her fifth goal of the season in the 28th minute to put Xavier up 1-0. Dewey's tally came after she knocked the ball into the bottom corner of the net off the assist from Jessica Miller.
• Xavier held the 1-0 lead through halftime, but the Bobcats responded early in the second half, tying the game in the 50th minute when OU's Remi Eades scored to the far post from the top of the box, tying the score at 1-1.
• In the 75th minute, Carly Alfano played the ball to Tori Doss, who brought the ball to the top of the box. Doss shot it to the left of the Ohio goalkeeper to put the Musketeers up, 2-1, with her fourth goal of the season. Doss' goal would be the eventual game-winner.
• Toni Bizzarro and Rachel Piccus split time in frame for a fourth straight game, with Bizzarro getting the starting for the first time in her collegiate career. Bizzarro made three saves in the first half to hold Ohio scoreless before the break. Rachel Piccus started in goal in the second half for the Musketeers, picking up her fourth win of the season. The backline of Carly Alfano, Ellie Eckerle and Courtney Kobashigawa played the full 90 minutes, only allowing three shots for the Bobcats in each half.
• Through nine games, Samantha Dewey, the leading points scorer from 2015, has posted a team-leading 14 points off a team-highs in goals (5) and assists (4).
• Tori Doss has eight points through nine games, the second highest total on the squad, after she scored her fourth goal of the season against Ohio.
• Kenadie Carlson has six points through nine games after she posted a pair of goals last week to go with two assists.
• Xavier's 16 goals through nine games have come from eight different Musketeers. Eight Musketeers have also dished out assists.
• Rachel Piccus has played a team-high 650 minutes in goal, starting eight of Xavier's nine matches. Piccus has allowed only nine goals against while collecting 79.1 percent of shots against her for a total of 34 saves. Piccus has picked up four wins on the season, including a pair of shutouts.
• Toni Bizzarro made the first start of her college career at Ohio, marking her fourth appearance in goal for the Musketeers. Through 180 minutes of action, Bizzarro has 10 saves for a 90.9 save percentage while only allowing one goal for a 0.50 GAA. In four appearances, Bizzarro has a record of 2-0-0.
• In the backfield with Piccus, Carly Alfano is averaging 88 minutes of action in seven appearances including 102 minutes in the double overtime match at Ball State. Courtney Kobashigawa chips in over 86 minutes per game and Ellie Eckerle is averaging just over 82.6 minutes through nine games as part of a defense that is holding teams to 1.11 goals per game.
• Toni Bizzarro was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the week after appearing in-goal in three matches for the Musketeers last week. Bizzarro made her first collegiate appearance against NKU on Sept. 6, splitting time with Rachel Piccus in frame in all three of the Musketeers' matches this week to total 135 minutes. In three appearances, she collected seven saves for a .875 save percentage while allowing only one goal on the way to a 2-0 record. This is the first weekly award of Bizzarro's career.
• Kenadie Carlson earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after she totaled five points through three games to help the Musketeers to a 2-1 record during the past week. After the Musketeers fell behind 1-0 at NKU, Carlson scored her first of the season just out of the halftime break to tie the game which the Musketeers won on a last second goal. Carlson collected another three points in the win at Youngstown State, assisting on Samantha Dewey's goal in the 60th minute and scoring the game-winner in the 73rd. This is Carlson's first weekly award of the season.
• Bizzarro and Carlson's honors brings the number of Musketeers who have earned weekly awards from the BIG EAST this season to five. In week one, Rachel Piccus earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Maddie Tierney was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Samantha Dewey also earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition last week.
• After IUPUI, Xavier begins the BIG EAST Conference slate, starting out on the road at DePaul on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
• Following DePaul match, the Musketeers close out a five-game road swing at Providence on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
