Osman's Penalty Kick Gives Men's Soccer 1-0 Win Over DePaul in BIG EAST Opener

Xavier held a 10-0 edge in shots during a dominant second half
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer unleashed a barrage of shots in the second half, finally breaking through on an 82nd minute penalty kick by Majed Osman to take down DePaul 1-0 on Saturday at UC's Gettler Stadium.
With the win, the Musketeers improve to 3-2-2 overall and open league play with a 1-0 record. DePaul drops to 4-2-2 and 0-1 in BIG EAST play.
After a mostly even first half, XU went into the locker room with a 4-2 shot advantage and came out for the second half on fire.
The Musketeers held a 10-0 edge in shots for the second period, becoming the clear aggresor and eventually earning a goal on Osman's PK.

• DePaul came into the match in the top-10 in the nation with 17 total goals in 2016 and Xavier held the Blue Demons to two shots total in the match. It was the first shutout of the season for XU.
• Under Andy Fleming, Xavier is now 18-8-4 (.667) after a loss.
• Xavier is now 18-7-3 (.696) in BIG EAST play since joining the conference ahead of the 2013 season.
• The Musketeers held a 14-2 edge in shots overall, including a 10-0 advantage in the second half. XU also took nine corners, while holding DePaul to none.
• Colin Hanley played the full 90 in net and recorded his first career clean sheet for Xavier.
• Eight different Musketeers took a shot in the match.
• Majed Osman scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick and led the match with six shots, including three on frame.
• Osman is now the seventh different Musketeer to provide a goal this season.
• Xavier improved to 2-0-1 in home matches away from XU Soccer Complex. XU is now 5-1-3 in its history at UC against teams other than UC.

• Xavier men's soccer has reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the last six seasons.
• The Musketeers finished 2015 at 12-6-1 overall, marking a sixth straight season with at least 10 wins – one of just 12 programs that can claim the feat.
• Last fall also marked Xavier's third straight finish in the top-four of the BIG EAST.
• XU was ranked in the nation's top-10 by the NSCAA for the third time in four years, while knocking of the national No. 1 (Creighton) and No. 2 (Notre Dame) on the road last season. The Musketeers are widely believed to be the first program to ever knock off both a No. 1 and a No. 2 on the road in the same season.
