Musketeers improve to 6-1 at home with fourth shutout of season
CINCINNATI – Josh Grant scored just after halftime, providing the difference for Xavier men's soccer in a 1-0 win over visiting Marquette on Saturday night at XU Soccer Complex.
Over 1,000 fans were on hand to witness the Musketeers improve to 8-4-2 and climb back to 3-3 in league play.
Marquette fell to 2-9-2 and 2-3-1 in the BIG EAST.
• Josh Grant's score was his second of the season and came unassisted in the 49th minute. Grant is fifth on the team with nine points this season (2 G, 5 A).
• The shutout was the fourth of the season for XU and was the team's first 1-0 win in regulation this season.
• Junior Colin Hanley made his first start of the season, making two saves and posting his first shutout of the year and fifth in a Xavier uniform.
• XU is now 6-1 at home with six straight wins at XU Soccer Complex.
• Xavier has won three of its last four against Marquette, but trails the all-time series 5-3.
• The Musketeers are now 24-14-4 in league play since joining the BIG EAST for the 2013 season.
• The Musketeers bounced back from a road loss last weekend at Creighton. Since 2010, XU has compiled a record of 23-11-4 after a loss.
