Tori Doss, Carly Alfano earn All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors
NEW YORK - After leading Xavier women's soccer on offense as the Musketeers earned the first BIG EAST Championship bid in program history, forward Sydney Schembri was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, the conference offices announced on Saturday. Schembri also earned All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honors, and is joined by teammates Tori Doss and Carly Alfano on the All-BIG EAST squad, with both earning Second Team honors.

Schembri collected six tallies during regular season play for 12 points, both marking highs for the 2017 Musketeers. Three of her goals came during conference play, matching Doss for team-high in BIG EAST action. The Musketeers posted the first winning conference season since 2005, earning the first postseason bid since joining the BIG EAST.
Among Schembri's BIG EAST goals was the game-winners against Creighton in the closing second, and at Villanova, marking two of three game-winners for the Northville, Mich. native on the season, also a team-high.
Schembri's honor marks the first time a Musketeer has earned a major post-season award from the BIG EAST. In a three-way tie for the award, Butler goalkeeper Leonie Doege and Providence goalkeeper Shelby Hogan also earned the honor.

Forward Tori Doss earned All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors for matching Schembri for team-high in goals during conference play. The redshirt-senior also added an assist for seven points during BIG EAST play, the most for a Musketeer in conference action. Among Doss' four goals for the season are two game-winners, both coming during conference action.
Doss tallied the game winner against Providence for the 1-0 win in the first result against the Friars since joining the BIG EAST. The Indianapolis native also scored the game-winner late in the 2-1 win over Seton Hall that secured the Musketeers' bid to the BIG EAST Championship.
Senior defender Carly Alfano also earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. The native of Belle River, Ontario, Cananda leads the Musketeers in minutes played with over 1800 for the season, anchoring the Xavier defense as middle back. The Xavier back line hasn't allowed more than a single goal since September, including holding all nine BIG EAST opponents to one goal or fewer. Xavier's defense also forced four shutouts on the season.
This marks the first time multiple Musketeers have earned post-season honors since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
Xavier continues its season with its first BIG EAST Championship match, traveling to Milwaukee to face Marquette in the Quarterfinals on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
