
Xavier Swimming Moves up to Second on the Men's Side, Third on the Women's to Close CSU Magnus Cup

Marks fourth-straight year of second, third place finishes for men and women, respectively
Xavier's men collected a number of multiple top-10 finishes throughout the day to move comfortably ahead of George Washington, finishing behind only host Cleveland State.
Xavier's women inched towards the host Vikings standing in third, throughout the day, sneaking past CSU by one point after collecting a second place and an eighth place finish in the final relay.

 WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS |
- Emma Kauffeld's time of 17:11.00 in the mile placed sixth for the Musketeers.
- Caroline Gaertner placed second in the 50 fly with a time of 25.25. Laura Dicus and Annie Cummins also placed in the top 10.
- Paxtyn Drew placed fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:03.91
- Emily Conners set the top time during prelims of the 100 free, 50.56, and dropped that time to 50.49 in the finals to place third. Conners' finals time is the fastest so far this season by a BIG EAST competitor.
- Delaney Sprague's time of 2:25.38 in the 200 breast is the fastest by a Musketeer this season.
- Ali Fort set the second fastest time during prelims of the 50 back, 26.35. In the finals, Fort and Paxtyn Drew tied for second with a time of 26.64.
- Taylor Hogan's time of 2:03.08 in the 200 fly finished eighth and is faster than every other time set in the event by a BIG EAST competitor this season, aside from her own school record set during the Butler Double Dual (2:01.79).
- Xavier's women closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:24.44, the fastest time set in the event so far this season by a BIG EAST team.
- The second-place finish for the Xavier A-relay, plus an eighth place finish by the B-relay, helped Xavier move past Cleveland State into third place of 15 teams, finishing one point ahead of CSU with 909 points.

 MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS |
- Nick Mahoney finished fifth in the mile with a time of 15:57.36, the fastest time so far in the BIG EAST in 2017-18. Mahoney was followed in by Alex Wolfred in sixth.
- In the 100 IM, Matthew Dyer posted a time of 52.16 to qualify, a new program record in the non-traditional event. In the finals, Dyer placed third.
- David Bunnell finished third in the 50 fly with a time of 22.81.
- Alex Sironen's time of 1:50.83 placed fourth in the finals of the 200 back, leading in four Musketeers who finished in the top 10 in the finals. Chase Baldwin, Nathan Runyon and Nick Mahoney also competed in the top heat. Baldwin's prelim time of 1:50.63 was the fastest for a Musketeer so far this season.
- Sam Johanns tied for fourth with a time of 46.46 in the 100 free, the fastest time for a Musketeer so far this season.
- Matthew Dyer posted a time of 2:04.01 in the finals of the 200 breast to take third, the fastest time for a Musketeer in 2017-18 and the second fastest time posted in the BIG EAST.
- Sam Johanns placed second in the 50 back with a time of 23.46. Alex Sironen, Nathan Runyon and Chase Baldwin also posted top-10 finishes.
- Landon Clark placed second with a time of 1:52.20 in the 200 fly, the fastest time by a Musketeer this season.
- Brandon Abboud finished fourth after posting the top qualifying time in the prelims of the 200 fly. Bradley Jackson finished fifth in the finals.
- Xavier's men closed out the event with a time of 3:06.12 in the 400 free for Sam Johanns, Robert Snader, David Bunnell and Alex Sironen.
- Xavier's men moved past George Washington on Sunday, collecting total of 1103.5 points to finish in second place behind host Cleveland State for the fourth-straight year.

- The CSU Magnus Cup is the final full-squad meet of the Fall 2017Â semester for the Musketeers. Selected qualifiers will compete in the AT&T Winter Nationals in Columbus, Ohio from Nov. 29 through Dec 2.
- The entire squad will next be in action on Jan. 5, 2018, when Xavier travels to Indianapolis to face IUPUI and Ball State.
