MINNEAPOLIS - Freshman A'riana Gray posted her first career double-double in a 74-62 road loss at Minnesota on Wednesday night. The forward finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Musketeers moved to 3-1 on the year, while the Golden Gophers improved to 5-0.

THE STORYLINES

• The first quarter had four ties and five lead changes before the Musketeers closed the frame on an 8-0 run, taking a 22-16 advantage. A Deja Ross basket with 33 seconds left in the half gave the Musketeers a 40-32 advantage at intermission. All told, the first half had four ties and seven lead changes.

• Na'Teshia Owens led Xavier at the break with eight points, while A'riana Gray paced the team on the glass with five rebounds. Both teams had 21 rebounds at intermission.

• Xavier scored three unanswered points to open the second half and take their largest lead of the game, 43-32.The Golden Gophers responded by using a 16-4 run to take their first lead since the 7:50 mark in the second quarter. Minnesota outscored Xavier, 25-11, in the third quarter to take a 57-51 advantage.

• A Na'Teshia Owens basket to open the fourth quarter got Xavier within four, 57-53, but the Golden Gophers outscored the Musketeers, 17-11, in the final stanza to pull off the come-from-behind win.

NOTABLES

• A'riana Gray made her first career start on Wednesday night. The freshman forward went 4-for-7 from the floor in 27 minutes of action. She finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

• Na'Teshia Owens scored a team-high 12 points to go along with two assists, one rebound and one block.

• Freshmen Deja Ross and Princess Stewart both had nine points. Stewart dished out a team-high three assists, while Ross had six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

• Senior Anniina Äijänen added nine points and five rebounds. Classmate Jada Byrd chipped in seven points and two assists.

• Xavier hit 41.2 percent of its shot attempts, while the Golden Gophers posted a .397 field-goal percentage. Minnesota won the battle on the glass, 42-36.
