Xavier Track and Field Announces 2017-18 Schedule

CINCINNATI - Xavier track and field announced its schedule for the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons. The Musketeers will compete in 22 meets during the upcoming season.

• Xavier opens the indoor season at the Mastodon Opener for the third consecutive season. The Musketeers won five events and set two school records at the meet last season.
• The Mastodon Opener is the team's lone meet in 2017 before opening the new year at the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 12-13 in Lexington, Ky. All told, Xavier will compete in eight indoor meets before the BIG EAST Championships.
• The BIG EAST Championships are slated for Feb. 23-24 in Staten Island, N.Y.  The two-day meet is being held at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex for the third straight year.

• The Musketeers open the outdoor season at the Stan Lyons Invitational on March 16-17 in Indianapolis, Ind., for the fifth consecutive season. The meet is being hosted by Butler University.
• Xavier will compete in 14 meets during the outdoor season, highlighted by the Penn Relays on April 26-28.
• The BIG EAST Championships are slated for May 11-12 in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute. The venue was also used for the 2016 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships.Â

• Xavier established seven school records at the BIG EAST Championships last season.
• The Musketeers return three athletes who posted top-five finishes on the men's side in Zachary Polk, Nolan Daniels and Chris Taylor. Polk won the long jump, while placing third in the 60-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash.
• The men will have to replace Russell Platt who earned three medals at the championships. Platt won both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, while placing second in the high jump. The senior standout was tabbed the BIG EAST "Men's High Point Performer of the Meet" as he collected 28 points.
• On the women' side, the Musketeers return all-conference performer, Kara Robinson. The junior placed third in the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of 8.81 seconds. The women also return Karmen Auble who placed fifth in the pentathlon and Madeline Britton who took eighth in the 5,000-meter run.

• Zachary Polk returns after winning four medals (two gold, two silver) at the BIG EAST Championships a year ago. The senior standout was tabbed the "Men's High Point Performer of the Meet" as he collected 28.5 points Polk has won 17 medals at the BIG EAST Championships (indoor and outdoor) during his career.
• On the women's side, Karmen Auble earned a bronze medal in the heptathlon for the second time in as many BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. She collected 3,929 points over the two-day meet.
• The Xavier women tied for sixth place, their best finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships since joining the conference. The 44 points scored were the second most by the program at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships (45 points in 2014 is the program high - BIG EAST Championships).
• The Xavier men finished with 69 points, the most points by the program since joining the conference.Â
