Fallon Goes 4-for-4 as XU Baseball Drops Series Finale at Troy, 5-2

Musketeers split first weekend series of season, head to Cary, N.C. next weekend for four against Penn State
TROY, Ala. - Senior Matt Fallon had a career-best four hit day at the plate and Conor Grammes continued his hot start to the season, but XU stranded nine runners in a 5-2 loss to Troy to close the weekend at Riddle-Pace Field.
With the setback, Xavier moves to 2-2 finishing off a four-game split with the Trojans.

• Xavier collected 11 hits, marking a third game this weekend with a double-digit hit total, but stranded nine runners on the afternoon.
• Conor Grammes had his fourth straight multi-hit game to begin his college career. The freshman finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. The performance capped a spectacular weekend, which saw Grammes go 8-for-17 (.471) with a homer, three doubles and five RBI. He also threw 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out a pair.
• Matt Fallon had a career-best four-hit performance, going 4-for-4 with a run and a double.
• Chris Givin (1-for-5), Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-2, 2 BB), Nate Soria (1-for-4), Blaine Griffiths (1-for-1) and Will LaRue (1-for-4) also collected hits.
• Xavier cut down on the K's in the finale, striking out just six times after going down on strikes 42 times in the first three games.

• Greg Jacknewitz (0-1) went 5.2 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
• Conor Grammes made his second relief appearance of the weekend, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and striking out two.
• Taylor Williams made his first appearance of the season, allowing two runs in the seventh.
• XU starting pitchers have combined for a 2.33 ERA through four games, striking out 21 and allowing just 13 hits in 23.2 innings of work.
