Gaffney’s Double-Double Leads Xavier to Road Win at Butler

Musketeers outscore Bulldogs, 19-4, in the fourth quarter
INDIANAPOLIS – Senior guard Raeshaun Gaffney posted her second career double-double and the Musketeers outscored Butler, 19-4, in the fourth quarter to pull out a 53-43 win at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The Musketeers (11-12, 3-9 BIG EAST) held the Bulldogs (5-18, 2-10 BIG EAST) to only one field goal in the fourth quarter, coming with only 41 seconds left in regulation. Xavier snapped its seven-game losing streak with the win.
Saturday's game was back-and-forth as it featured five ties and 10 lead changes.
• Raeshaun Gaffney led Xavier with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The 11 rebounds matched her career high. She was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line.
• Maddison Blackwell added 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. The senior forward led the Musketeers with four steals.
• Xavier finished the game with nine steals. The Musketeers have had nine or more steals in a game six times this season.
• Imani Partlow chipped in 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting, while pulling down six rebounds. Marquia Turner rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.
• Xavier led a 44-40 advantage on the glass. The Musketeers also forced 19 turnovers, turning the miscues into 18 points.
• Xavier went 15-for-18 from the charity stripe, while the Bulldogs were 6-for-8.
• The opening quarter had three lead changes and two ties. Butler led by as many as five, 11-6, with 38 seconds on the clock before Marquia Turner hit a three in the closing seconds to make the score, 11-9, at the end of the first quarter.
• Maddison Blackwell led Xavier with four points and two rebounds. Leah Schaefer also had two rebounds for the Musketeers.
• Butler led by six, 21-15, at the 5:07 mark before the Musketeers closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 22-21 advantage into the locker room. Defensively, Xavier held Butler to 0-for-5 shooting over the final five minutes of action.
• Marquia Turner led Xavier with six points at the break. Imani Partlow and Raeshaun Gaffney both added five points, all coming in the second quarter. Xavier also held a 22-21 advantage on the glass with Raeshaun Gaffney pacing the Musketeers with six rebounds.
• Butler posted its best field-goal percentage of the day in the frame, connecting on 42.9 percent (6-for-14) of its shot attempts to outscore Xavier, 18-12. The Bulldogs led 39-34 after three quarters of action.
• Xavier responded by opening the final quarter on a 13-0 run capped by a Marquia Turner jumper at the 2:49 mark. The Musketeers never looked back as they took their first double-figure lead in the final minute.
• Defensively, Xavier held Butler to only one field goal (1-for-13) in the final quarter – with the basket coming with only 41 seconds left on the clock.
• Xavier was also 9-for-9 from the foul line in the final quarter. Raeshaun Gaffney scored six points in the quarter.
• Xavier returns to action on Friday, Feb. 10 against DePaul. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
