Junior infielder led team with six runs, hit .467 in 3-1 week for XU
NEW YORK - Junior infielder Mitch Gallagher was recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Tuesday, earning a spot on the league's weekly honor roll after hitting .467 (7-for-15) during a 3-1 week for the Musketeers.
Gallagher led the team with six runs scored, two doubles and five RBI, while reaching base in all four games last week. In addition, the Bradenton, Fla. native posted three multi-hit games and tied for the team lead with 12 total bases.
He had two game-deciding RBI in the Illinois State series, connecting for a go-ahead sacrifice fly in a 9-8 XU win on Friday and walking off with a single in Sunday's 3-2 win -- a hit which clinched the series for XU.
On Tuesday, Gallagher homered and scored three runs during a 2-for-4 game in a 7-4 win over Wright State.
For the season, Gallagher is hitting .296 with a homer and 11 RBI.
The Musketeers (13-11) are back on the diamond Wednesday, playing a single game at Miami (OH) at 6 p.m.
