Smith Top-10 After First Day at BIG EAST Championship

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – The Xavier women's golf team finished the first round of the BIG EAST Championship this afternoon. The Musketeers competed against the rest of the conference on a summery day at Callawassie Island Golf Club.

"We didn't have quite the round we were hoping today, but I was happy with our mental state throughout," said head coach Breanna Patz. "Everyone was positive with themselves and feels like their game is in a good place. We got some good work done after the round. We're hoping to put some solid scores on the board tomorrow, and see where that puts us going into Sunday."

HIGHLIGHTS

Mikayla Smith had the best round of the day for Xavier. The sophomore shot a first round 77 (+5), with a chip-in eagle on the par 5, sixth hole.

Rachel Johnson leads the team in pars with 11, and played the par 3's even.

Lindsey Murray leads the team in birdies with four, and played the par 5's at one under.

Grace Howie is second on the team in pars and birdies, with ten and four respectively.

Mikayla Fitzpatrick is third on the team in pars with nine.

t-10. Smith: 77 (+5)

t-14. Howie: 78 (+6)

t-19. Murray: 80 (+8)

t-21. Johnson: 81 (+9)

t-21. Fitzpatrick: 81 (+9)

TEAM RESULTS

The Musketeers are in fifth place with a first round combined score of 316 (+28).

SECOND ROUND

Tee times for Xavier begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 am ET.
